St Ignatius of Loyola is the personality who has given the city of Manresa the greatest international renown. It was here, walking through the streets of our city, praying in the churches, chapels and convents of the area and retreating to one of the characteristic rocky shelters of our landscape, where he discovered his religious vocation and where he was inspired to write his Spiritual Exercises. In 1522, Manresa inspired and transformed Saint Ignatius. Over the years, the memory of the saint and his work also ended up transforming our city, bequeathing some of the most representative heritage and architectural elements of present-day Manresa.
The Ignatian route covers a series of places marked by anecdotes, legends and symbolism surrounding the founder of the Society of Jesus. The old school of Saint Ignatius, the chapel of the Rapture, the well of the Hen, the chapel of Saint Ignatius the Sick, Carrer del Balç and the Espai Manresa 1522, together with the Sanctuary of the Cave of Saint Ignatius, form the stops on this itinerary.
