Transéquia

Manresa

The Transéquia invites you to walk the nearly 25 kilometers of the Séquia, from Balsareny to the Parc de l’Agulla.

As a tribute to the people who between 1339 and 1383 built the Séquia, which still provides a large flow of water to the city of Manresa today, the Jove Cambra de Manresa began organizing the Transéquia in 1985. Starting from Balsareny, passing through the municipalities of Sallent, Santpedor, and Sant Fruitós de Bages, it reaches the Parc de l’Agulla in Manresa. In 2014, the Aigües de Manresa Foundation – Junta de la Séquia took over from the Jove Cambra and has organized it since then.

The route is 24.8 km long with an elevation change of only 10 meters, an extraordinary fact considering the rudimentary means of the time. To make it possible, mines and around thirty aqueducts had to be built to overcome the terrain’s slopes, some of which are true monuments.

But the greatest success of the Séquia is that, six centuries after its construction, it is still fully operational and supplies all the water needed by the city of Manresa and other towns in the Bages region.
