The Passeig (Avenue) Pere III, together with Àngel Guimerà Street, forms the most important commercial area of Manresa. It has about 2 km long, from Sant Domènec Square to Carretera de Vic.
It was built during the 19th century as part of the first extension of the city once they have overthrown the medieval walls in 1819. The avenua was oficially opened in 1891 and became the area where Manresa’s bourgeoisie began to establish their homes. These wealthy citizens financed the Modernist-style buildings that can still be admired today, such as El Casino, Casa Gabernet Espanyol, and Casa Lluvià.
The name of Passeig Pere III was given in 1928 in honor of King Pere III "the Ceremonious" (Pere IV of Aragon).
