Due to reformation works, the Balç Street will remain closed temporally
Located within the premises of a former noble manor, the Interpretation Centre of Carrer del Balç offers visitors a multimedia exhibition that highlights the value of this unique heritage site, allowing them to discover what Manresa was like in the 14th century. Upon entering, visitors can enjoy an epic story centred on King Peter the Ceremonious, the great monarch who shaped Catalonia’s main institutions.
The Medieval Street: A Unique Space
Carrer del Balç is a magnificent example of Catalan medieval urban planning. The street was part of the medieval core of the city, located around today’s Plaça Major. Narrow and winding, the street follows the contours of a rocky slope (balç in Catalan) with different stepped levels. One of the most distinctive features of this space is its partial roof, created by arches and porches built between houses in the late medieval period to make the most of the limited space within the walled city.
Activities
Today, Carrer del Balç hosts a variety of activities for school groups, theatrical visits, gastronomic events, guided tours, performances, and more. The space can also be rented for private events.
